Song of the Day - Saturday Love - Alexander O'Neal & Cherelle
In the mid-1980's, while all of the other musical movements of the decade were flying high, R&B music was also serving up some very special stuff. Artists like the S.O.S. Band, Melissa Morgan, Luther Vandross, Klymaxx, and many more hit it big in the 1980's with their own now-classic additions to the annals of American music.
The two singers featured in today's song were two of my absolute favorites from 80's R&B music. Both Alexander O'Neal and Cherelle hit the big time with some great songs during the decade, both individually and as a duo. Cherelle's "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On" and Alexander O'Neal's "Fake" were two of the decades hottest R&B songs, but the two were especially 'on' when they sang together. When these two performed together, they reminded me a lot of a modern-day Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, they were that good!
In addition to "Saturday Love," the duo recorded another classic, "Never Knew Love (Like This)," three years later which I just may share here too one day soon. "Saturday Love" is off of Cherelle's 1985 album "High Priority," and is an R&B classic...so soulfully good! So click play, enjoy, and have a great Saturday filled with love!
