Song of the Day - Silent Night - 'SNL' Opens With 'Silent Night' in Honor of Shooting Victims

My pal Rich had told me about this touching tribute to the victims of the Newtown tragedy on Saturday Night Live the other night, and since I actually contemplated posting this very song yesterday, I felt it befitting to do so today.  This will be the last such Song of the Day.

Song of the Day - Empty Garden - Elton John

xxxxxxxx

It's Sunday morning, the one morning of the week that I look forward to making myself breakfast and sitting down to read the Sunday news, only today's paper wasn't an enjoyable one to read. As I turned to page 4, I immediately began to cry. Inevitably, the majority of coverage in the paper this morning was about the Connecticut school shootings on Friday and on that page, and the three following, they profiled the victims, whose names were released yesterday. The children were profiled first.

Noah Pozner, aged 6

There's so much I could say right now, but to me it wouldn't make an iota of a difference. I am not a parent, but I am a teacher, and the tragedy that happened on Friday hits me especially hard. I can't imagine so heinous an act that has ever been perpetrated. It's horrible enough when innocents perish for no reason, but babies? My heart is broken and I cannot imagine what their families are going through. May they find peace in knowing that we all grieve with them.

Olivia Engel, aged 6

This song was written and performed by Elton John in memory of his good friend, John Lennon, who was slain in December 1980 at the hands of another psychopath with a gun. Once again, this is dedicated to the slain in Newtown, Connecticut. May you all rest in peace!

Song of the Day - Will You Be There - Michael Jackson

Like the rest of you, I wake up this morning with a heavy heart for all of those innocent souls who lost their lives so senselessly yesterday in Newtown, Connecticut.  My thoughts and prayers and inner sadness will be with them in the days, weeks, and months to come and I dedicate this song to them.

Will You Be There

Hold Me
Like The River Jordan
And I Will Then Say To Thee
You Are My Friend

Carry Me
Like You Are My Brother
Love Me Like A Mother
Will You Be There?

Weary
Tell Me Will You Hold Me
When Wrong, Will You Scold Me
When Lost Will You Find Me?

But They Told Me
A Man Should Be Faithful
And Walk When Not Able
And Fight Till The End
But I'm Only Human

Everyone's Taking Control Of Me
Seems That The World's
Got A Role For Me
I'm So Confused
Will You Show To Me
You'll Be There For Me
And Care Enough To Bear Me

(Hold Me)
(Lay Your Head Lowly)
(Softly Then Boldly)
(Carry Me There)

(Lead Me)
(Love Me And Feed Me)
(Kiss Me And Free Me)
(I Will Feel Blessed)

(Carry)
(Carry Me Boldly)
(Lift Me Up Slowly)
(Carry Me There)

(Save Me)
(Heal Me And Bathe Me)
(Softly You Say To Me)
(I Will Be There)

(Lift Me)
(Lift Me Up Slowly)
(Carry Me Boldly)
(Show Me You Care)

(Hold Me)
(Lay Your Head Lowly)
(Softly Then Boldly)
(Carry Me There)

(Need Me)
(Love Me And Feed Me)
(Kiss Me And Free Me)
(I Will Feel Blessed)

[Spoken]
In Our Darkest Hour
In My Deepest Despair
Will You Still Care?
Will You Be There?
In My Trials
And My Tribulations
Through Our Doubts
And Frustrations
In My Violence
In My Turbulence
Through My Fear
And My Confessions
In My Anguish And My Pain
Through My Joy And My Sorrow
In The Promise Of Another Tomorrow
I'll Never Let You Part
For You're Always In My Heart.

Tri-State Weather Sandy Coverage; Helping Out

Today was Hump Day, but not really.  After what has now been three days of witnessing all of the horrifying things that Sandy has done to the Northeast, I can say for sure that there are plenty of people with a grand hump still far ahead of them.  I've really been too busy to keep track of all the goings on, all the stories, but later on this evening I finally got a chance to turn on the TV to do a little catching up, and the magnitude of what happened just seems to be getting bigger and bigger as words and pictures spread.

Tri-State Weather on Facebook

Photographs speak much louder than any words I can use to describe what's happened and report on the stories that are as yet unfolding.  One of the ways I've kept up on things has been on the Facebook page of Tri-State Weather.  They post regularly with photos and updates on the devastation.  Here are some photos from today:

These are but just a few of the many horrific scenes that exist in the wake of Frankenstorm 2012.  I'm sure when all is said and done, this one's going to break the record books for cost.  I can't imagine what the final price tag will be. If you're a member of Facebook, I highly suggest subscribing to the posts of Tri-State Weather.  They've got updates and information on all things related to the disaster.

Helping Out

As I watched the news tonight, I couldn't help but think of how fortunate I've been and that there are so many people out there who are suffering and will continue to suffer for a long time to come.  I've long spoken of the virtues of volunteering, and I think now is as good a time as any to pitch in.  I started looking at some websites that carry information regarding where and how people can help.

I'm hoping to put a more comprehensive piece together soon for Examiner, but in the meantime I'm including some links to sites that list places where volunteers can find places to pitch in.  They provide information on all sorts of help that is needed both immediately and in the weeks to come.  Check them out:

If you can, please consider donating some of your time to help out a neighbor.  No matter how big or small, the reward will be greater than anything you could imagine!  As always, thanks for reading!
