Song of the Day - Joy to the World - Three Dog Night

Jeremiah was a bullfrog
Was a good friend of mine...

There's one of the most recognizable opening lines to a song ever, and perhaps I'm showing my age posting this, but heck, I think it's a perfect one for the season.  I remember this one from when I was a tyke, listening to it while playing blocks or Matchbox cars while mom cleaned the house or during a Sunday afternoon ride to the country in dad's Chevy convertible.  It's got one of those catchy, catchy choruses filled with sing out loud goodness...

Joy to the World
All the boys and girls
Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea
Joy to you and me

Yeah!  Happy Sunday!

Rihanna's 'Unapologetic' Track Reviews: 'Love Without Tragedy/Mother Mary'

Red lipstick, rose petals, heartbreak
I was his Marilyn Monroe
Brown eyes, tuxedos, fast cars
A James Dean on the low
Dean on the low

One of my favorite tracks on Unapologetic is actually two songs in one.  The first part, Love Without Tragedy is inevitably connected to Ri-Ri's connection to Chris Brown, with whom she shared a love tragedy in the not to distant past.  The mid tempo tune is pleasant and melodic, but this seven-minute track really gets dramatic at the beginning of Mother Mary, a little past the two-minute mark.

The second mini-song of this set is raw and emotional, a little bit act of contrition...

Mother Mary
I swear I want to change
Mister Jesus
I'd love to be a queen
But I'm from, the left side of an island
Never thought this many people, would even know my name
As time flies, way above me
For you I've cried, tears sea deep
Oh glory, the prayers carry me

I don't know what it is, but I absolutely love this very dramatic song.  This second part of the track lasts almost a full five minutes and the strings, along with the confessional vocals are simply hypnotic!   Please check out Love Without Tragedy/Mother Mary.

Happy Birthday Mom, 70 Years Young!

Today is my mom's 70th birthday, and after spending a nice morning breakfast with her and my cousin Ann, I've got to consider myself lucky because if I age as well as she did, I've got it made in the shade.  Mom may be 70, but she could most certainly pass for her 50's in both looks and how she carries herself.  In fact, she herself seems to take after members of her own family, all of whom lived long lives and most of whom aged very well.

Anyway, last Sunday, my siblings and I threw her a surprise party to mark the occasion and I think she was genuinely surprised.  Most of her friends showed up, which is pretty good considering the party's close proximity to all of this holiday madness, and a good time was had by all, including mom.  She deserves it! So happy birthday mom, and here's to many more!

Christina Aguilera's 'Lotus' Track Reviews: 'Around the World'

The next track off Lotus is a dramatic, mid-tempo song that Billboard calls "tepid."  Well, X-Tina's sexual jaunt from Hollywood to Japan and Tokyo to Milan isn't really too steamy.  It's just okay...just okay!  Check out All Around the World, and check out the first nine track reviews from Lotus below:
