The B-52's Top Ten Songs

After beginning New Wave Month with the fabulous B-52s, I got to listening to their stuff over and over again, and after the third go-around I thought to myself, "why not do a top ten list of B-52s songs?"  A day later, voila!  The list was made, with commentary of course, and submitted to Yahoo.  The piece was just published and I thought I'd share it here along with my pick for #4, the classic Planet Claire.  Check out The B-52's Top Ten Songs.

New Wave Month Song of the Day #3 - Strobe Light - The B52's

mangrovedeltaplan

Okay, so the B-52's are so awesome that they deserve a third Song of the Day, and here's one that I absolutely love, love, love...

Is that you baby?
Yeah!
I got something to tell ya
Oh what?
I wanna see you tonight
I want you to walk in the door
I want you to lay on the floor
Cause tonight's the night...

New Wave Month Song of the Day #2 - Roam - B-52's

Now I was never a really big fan of the B's later stuff, especially after they're big mainstream comeback that started with Love Shack. I don't know, but something about them after the death of founding member Ricky Wilson was different.  Their sound was different, still good, but different.  Though I bought into the whole Comsin Thing thing at the time, it is not one of my favorite albums, though this song is irresistibly good!

I hear a wind
          Whistling in
                      Whispering in
                                In my ear...

New Wave Month Song of the Day #1 - Private Idaho - The B-52s

Private Idaho was my first real B-52's song.  I say that because even though I knew Rock Lobster, I was only vaguely aware of the song at the time and there used to be a bar called Spectrum in Medford that I went to every Friday night.  Anyway, I remember that the deejay at the club played it in conjunction with another, totally different type of song, Play At Your Own Risk by Planet Patrol, every week and I remember just loving the music and not knowing or realizing what the hell they were saying in it.  I only knew that I loved it, and one day I got up the nerve to ask the deejay what it was and who sang it.

Needless to say, Private Idaho has been a favorite of mine ever since and this is the first time I've ever gotten to check out a performance of the tune, so take a look for yourself...

Flashback Friday Song of the Day - Rock Lobster - B52's

For anyone who was around back in the 1980's, you're sure to identify with the B52's and the GoGo's, who announced a joint mini-concert series this summer including one night at NYC's Roseland Ballroom (holla!).  These two bands were nothing but fun back in the day and I plan on being there on June 19th.

Before they hit the really big time in 89 with Love Shack, this was the B's signature song, full of nonsensical lyrics, unusual sounds of sea animals, and dancey rockish fun!  Happy Friday!

Song of the Day - Song For a Future Generation - B-52's

(LOVE the hair!)

Wanna be the ruler of the galaxy
Wanna be the king of the universe
Let's meet and have a baby now!
Wanna be the empress of fashion
Wanna be the president of Moscow
Let's meet and have a baby now!

Since New Year's is just about here, I thought I'd post this song for a future generation, lol. All kidding aside, I love the old B-52's and this was one of their first videos I ever saw. The lyrics, the video, the music....it's all so...so...well different...and fun! In this one each of the members introduce themselves along with a little sumthing sumthing about them, and I just love Cindy's line:

Hello, I'm Cindy. I'm a Pisces.
I like chihuahuas and Chinese noodles.

Classic! Well enjoy everybody and Happy Friday!
