With my birthday coming up next week, I've been feeling a little reflective lately, and so this one's been playing in my mind for the past day or so. Yes, I've had the time of my life over my years here on this planet, but I'm still waiting for that one...
I've been listening to Black Eyed Peas a lot lately. Oh, how I wish they would make some new music! Anyway, love, love, love this video! Have a great Thursday!
Every once in awhile I'll give you a double shot Song of the Day and this is one of those days. Today's featured artist is Black Eyed Peas, and both songs are from their last album, The Beginning. Neither was a hit by any means, but both tunes have a lot of plays on my iPod. I'd almost forgotten about them until yesterday, when I came across them on a rarely listened to playlist on my iPod. Take a listen...
Love You Long Time
Here's a song that I totally forgot about. It wasn't ever released as a single, but that doesn't mean it's not good! I liked this one at first listen because the background keyboards is the same melody as the opening to K.C.'s Give It Up. Only where that one rose up in tempo almost immediately, this one stays at that slower pace, making it a delicious mid tempo groove. I just love the chorus sung in turn by Fergie and will:
Would you let me love you let me love you long time Would you let me love you let me love you long time Would you let me love you let me love you long time Would you let me love you let me love you long time Boy I let you love me, let you love me long time Boy I let you love me, let you love me long time Boy I let you love me, let you love me long time Boy I let you love me, let you love me long time In the Velvet Lounge...
The second song in our special B.E.P. Songs of the Day is a more up tempo tune that samples Montell Jordan's This Is How We Do It, which was a great dance track all on its own. Mix those beats with will.i.am's lyrics and you've got a fun, fun song!
Happy Friday! It looks like spring is finally getting going here on Long Island with plenty of sunshine and warmer temperatures, and it feels so good! Going to a party tonight and so here's hoping for tonight being a good night!
Hello and welcome back to Part II of John's World's Top 30 Dance Songs of 2011. So far we've seen several good club tracks from the past year and now we're really getting down to the really good stuff. Each of these tunes have given me a good workout during the year and I hope you enjoy my selections.
#20 - Only Girl in the World - Rihanna
This is the first of three Rihanna songs to make it to my list this year. It came off of RiRi’s 2010 “Loud” album and it’s Euro dance music at its best. A great song deserving of the word “anthem!”
#19 - Party Rock Anthem - LMFAO
This official jam of the summer 2011 got played out way too much and frankly I’m really over it. I’m only including it here because it was a giant smash and should be recognized for its success. It was great fun while it lasted! Check out my original "Song of the Day" post featuring the song back in July right here, and you can even buy it here:
#18 - Give Me Everything – Pitbull, featuring Ne Yo, Afrojack and Nayer
I really wanted to place Pitbull a little higher on the list. After all, he really came into his own in 2011 with several songs and collaborations. This one, though the message isn’t as sweet and innocent as the melody, is a really great sing-a-long and very easy on the ears!
#17 - I Wanna Go – Britney Spears
This was an early favorite of mine off of “Femme Fatale,” with a catchy, whistly background and a fun track. Great song!
#16 - Rolling in the Deep – Adele
Even though the original version of this song was such a big, albeit, depressing kind of hit, it worked pretty good on the dance floors, as well, serving as one of the summer’s hottest anthems. Here's a short clip of one of the many remixes out there:
#15 - Born This Way – Lady Gaga
Yeah, yeah, so all the Gaga haters claim that this one is a rip off of Madge’s “Express Yourself.” Even though I disagree, isn’t imitation the sincerest form of flattery? All criticisms and hype aside, this is a great dance anthem and it inspired quite a few young LGBT’s, so I give it props for that alone!
I featured this one during Pride Week back in June, as it was THE song played over and over again the entire day of the Parade...check out the post right here. Buy it here:
#14 - Yeah 3X – Chris Brown
Even though Mr. Brown’s image will forever be tarnished because of he and Rihanna, he’s still a very talented young man with a knack for making radio and dance floor-friendly tunes. This feel good song is a lot of fun too dance to!
#13 – Blow – Ke$ha
I really didn’t like Ke$ha too much until this one came out earlier in the year. So sassy, so dancy!
#12 - Hey Hey – Dennis Ferrer
Just an ordinary day Till you came around I had my feet on the ground...
This one is a longtime favorite, and many people love it when they hear it. It’s not played too often in the clubs, but when it is, everybody’s jamming! Click play...
#11 - Time (Dirty Bit) – Black Eyed Peas
Even though this one technically came out in 2010, it was played a lot earlier in the year, though I think the straight-up version is much hotter than the mix they play in the clubs!
So there you have it, the middle ten of my Top 30 Dance/Club Songs of 2011. Ii hope you enjoyed reading and took the time to check out at least a couple of the videos. Stayed tuned for my top ten coming real soon... In the meantime, check out Part I here.
Happy Saturday everyone! Today's "Song of the Day" is one of my favorites from the Black Eyed Peas. It's got all the makings of a great song: great lyrics, an uplifting music track and it's very danceable. Enjoy and make it a great it a great day everybody!
I’ve been trying all day to think of “B” words for my second entry into the A-Z Blogging Challenge, and I’ve come up with quite a few. Rather than choose just one, I’m going to use several and spin them in my own unique way. I’m already way behind and I may never get caught up with this thing, so here goes nothing…
B is for Britney…
Britney Spears, that is. I want to say upfront here that I am not the world’s biggest Britney fan. I dated that guy a couple of years ago and he only worked to scar my image of her anyway. I admittedly like a lot of her music, though, especially her new “Femme Fatale” CD. In my Pop Music Weekly Edition from March 29 (see it here), I mentioned the rave reviews it got upon its release and I have to say that I agree. The album is probably one of the best she’s ever done, despite obvious flaws. I’m contemplating a review of the album, as I’ve got a lot of things to say about it. Stay tuned.
B is for Blogging
I originally started this blog as a way to promote my work on what was then called Associated Content. All I had ever done on it before was place links to my pieces there in the hopes that they would get more hits, and my posts were irregular at best. Then, at the beginning of the year I was going through a personal crisis and the true blogging had begun. For the first few weeks of the year and even now once and again I pour my soul into this blog and in the meantime it has morphed into something I had hoped for when I first created it. Where AC/Y!CN had once been the place for me to write my personal stuff, this has become the new place for that and a whole lot more. I love writing this blog and I hope you enjoy reading it. Keep watching as it moves along and grows…
B is for the Billboard Magazine Music Award Nominations
In this week’s edition of Pop Music News, I reported on the upcoming Billboard Music Awards (read it here). The show is being telecast on May 22nd and its already got a lot of hot performers booked. This morning, the magazine announced its nominees for the show and a whole slew of hot favorites are in the running, including Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Eminem and a whole lot more. To see the entire list of nominees, click here.
B is for Barbra Streisand Duck Sauce
Yesterday’s “Song of the Day” was a recent club/dance hit named after the famous singer/actress/diva/all-around entertainer who just happens to be THE diva of my good friend Rich. Ever since posting the song, I’ve played it a lot and it’s infectious, crazy beats, coupled with the intermittent spoken words “Barbra Streisand” are simply stuck in my head for the foreseeable future. Oh well, there could be worse things in life. Check out the post here.
B is for the Beatles, Barry White, Bob Marley, Bananarama, Belinda Carlisle, Blondie, Bette Midler, the Black Eyed Peas, Beyonce and all of the other “B” named artists in my iTunes library
Just a quick look at the artists listed here tells you the wide variety of music that I’ve had the privilege to enjoy in my life, from the time I was a little boy right up until today. There’s a little bit of reggae, some disco, the British Invasion, new wave, pop and of course dance music thrown into the mix. These are but a few of the many artists with “B” names that I still take a listen to every now and then to relive fond memories or just to enjoy again and again.
Of course, I’ll end this one as I normally do, only this time with a theme. B is for the Black Eyed Peas ‘Boom, Boom, Pow.’ Take a listen:
