Better late than never, right? I've been meaning to put up a Cyndi Lauper song ever since Sunday night for her great accomplishment at the Tony Awards. Though I should put up a number from Kinky Boots, I still don't know enough about it to feel comfortable doing so. One of my goals for the summer is to get back to Broadway. It's been way too long!
Anyway, here's a great club track from the fabulous Cyndi. Enjoy and Happy Wednesday!
Had a date yesterday with someone with whom I've been trying to get together with since last summer. Between Hurricane Sandy, Blizzard Nemo, and all of the other obstacles that life throws in one's way, several months passed in the blink of an eye, but the day finally came and it was really nice!
Any-who, during our meal together, we were discussing music. He and I both have the same taste, and one of our mutual loves is Cyndi Lauper. He had posted her version of Prince's When You Were Mine on his Facebook page the other day and that was how the topic came up. He told me that his favorite song of hers was Shine, which I shamelessly confessed I did not know. She performed it on Queer as Folk, which I'm sure I saw, but forgot.
By the time I had gotten home, he'd shared the video with me and of course, I loved it, so much so that I thought it'd make a good song to be featured here. Check it out...
Last night I penned a new piece sharing the news that Cyndi Lauper will be appearing live at NYC Pride Week's culminating show, Dance on the Pier, Sunday, June 24th at NYC's Pier 57, and so I figured it only fitting that I honor this exciting news with one of her best. Happy Hump Day!
Today's song is a relatively obscure one from one of my favorite singers, Cyndi Lauper. It's from her 1997 album, "Sisters of Avalon," and it's a thumping dance song about the double life of a drag queen, 'trying to get through another deadbeat day,' but at night the 'working boy becomes a dancing queen.' The song features some great background vocals as well as Cyndi's trademark yodel. It was a dance hit in 97, reaching #24 on the charts and the video features a very pregnant Lauper disguising her 'condition' by turning her belly into a disco ball. Ah, I just love Cyndi!
Today's "Song of the Day" was a club hit for Cyndi Lauper back in 1997. It's such a funky song, with a great beat, unique Cyndi vocals, and some of her classic yodeling during the chorus. The song is about a day in the life of a drag queen, and it's great fun to listen to as he/she "works his body..." Enjoy "The Ballad of Cleo and Joe":
