New Wave Month Song of the Day #2 - Chains of Love - Erasure

Whereas A Little Respect was probably one of Erasure's biggest hits, this one wasn't far behind...

Do you remember
There was a time....

New Wave Song of the Day - A Little Respect - Erasure

I tried to discover
A little something to make me sweeter
Oh baby refrain, from breaking my heart
I'm so in love with you
I'll be forever blue
That you give me no reason
Why you're making me work so hard...

Today, the last Sunday of New Wave Month, we feature one of the most enduring new wave bands. Erasure, made up of singer/songwriter Andy Bell and keyboardist/songwriter Vince Clarke (also a member of Yaz, featured all day yesterday), was always more popular in their native U.K. than they were here, but they've always been a popular act within the gay community (Bell is openly gay).  The duo have recorded many albums over the years (they still work together), and have had hits here and there, but none as popular as their tunes from the new wave era.

This is one of their most well-known and my personal favorite.  They play this one a lot over the summer at Cherry's on Fire Island and nearly every time they do, everyone sings along.  Check out A Little Respect...

Song of the Day - A Little Respect - Erasure

ahomosthoughts

Today's song is dedicated to Andy Herren, who was named the winner on last night's Big Brother season finale.  This season was my very first time ever watching the show and like many people, I got sucked into this drama-ridden fishbowl of a game show all summer long.  Andy was the token gay guy on the show this season and I liked him at first, but after stabbing so many people in the back throughout the last several weeks, I wasn't rooting for him anymore.

However, in last night's finale it quickly became obvious to me and to Andy's fellow contestants that this was indeed a game and Mr. Andy only did all what he did just to get himself in a position to win in the end, which he did, defeating fellow contestant Gina Marie Zimmerman.

Now the reason for the song has nothing to do with the song itself, but the act.  Throughout the season, I was always reminded of Erasure's Andy Bell whenever I looked at Andy (coincidence?), and so I told myself that if he won, I'd put up an Erasure tune today.  (I have no idea what I would have put up if GM would've won.)

So anyway, here's Erasure with A Little Respect, a great, great song!

Song of the Day - Always - Erasure

I probably should be sharing a Christmas song this morning considering it is Christmas Eve, but since this is a different kind of Christmas for me I'm just not in the mood. Besides, I heard enough Christmas music yesterday while I was out shopping to last me a lifetime!

Erasure is one of my favorite new wave groups. They're songs are always beautifully written, both musically and lyrically, and I'm sure many of them have been a part of the soundtrack of many a relationship, this one included.  Merry Christmas!

Always - Rhino Hi-Five: Erasure - EP

Always

Open your eyes I see
Your eyes are open
Wear no disguise for me
Come into the open

When it's cold outside
Am I here in vain?
Hold on to the night
There will be no shame

Always
I wanna be with you
And make believe with you
And live in harmony harmony oh love

Melting the ice for me
Jump into the ocean
Hold back the tide I see
Your love in motion

When it's cold outside
Am I here in vain?
Hold on to the night
There will be no shame

Song of the Day - In My Arms - Erasure

I've been going through a lot of things lately, and I had planned on writing about it last night, but as has been happening so much lately, life gets in the way.  Hopefully I'll get back to it before it goes away, but in the meantime, this song fits my mood so well right now.  So beautiful!  Enjoy and Happy Thursday!
