Song of the Day - Shine - Cyndi Lauper

Had a date yesterday with someone with whom I've been trying to get together with since last summer. Between Hurricane Sandy, Blizzard Nemo, and all of the other obstacles that life throws in one's way, several months passed in the blink of an eye, but the day finally came and it was really nice!

Any-who, during our meal together, we were discussing music.  He and I both have the same taste, and one of our mutual loves is Cyndi Lauper.  He had posted her version of Prince's When You Were Mine on his Facebook page the other day and that was how the topic came up.  He told me that his favorite song of hers was Shine, which I shamelessly confessed I did not know.  She performed it on Queer as Folk, which I'm sure I saw, but forgot.

By the time I had gotten home, he'd shared the video with me and of course, I loved it, so much so that I thought it'd make a good song to be featured here.  Check it out...

Song of the Day - Electric Dreams - Giorgio Moroder, with Philip Oakley

 

That's the birthday boy on the right

Today's song is a special dedication to my pal, Blanche, who is celebrating his birthday today.  Electric Dreams is one of his all time favorite songs and every once in awhile I'll hear him say in a bar that he wishes the deejay would play it.  There was one occasional that I actually wrote about Blanche and this song once...

A couple of summers ago, Blanche, Dita, myself and our pal Rose from Florida had all gone into the city to go on the Sea Tea, a weekly Sunday night party boat, to have some fun, and have fun we did.  Towards the end of the night, they started playing music from the good old days and suddenly this song came on.  Well, Blanche got so excited, as you might imagine, and he made us all dance (and sing) along to the song together, and the giddiness was just too much!  If you want to check out the whole story, read Here's to Good Friends.
