Today's song combines some of the best of black music past and present, as Etta James' voice makes this modern day rap/dance song one for the ages.....Happy Sunday!
Here's the latest from Flo Rida. Like many songs from rap artists today, this one employs and old sample in its chorus, giving it that air of familiarity whilst making it brand new. This time it's Piano in the Dark, by Brenda Russell, and I kinda like it. Enjoy and happy Sunday!
Well, after three days we're finally here, at the top ten dance/club songs of 2011, according to John's World. As I went through these ten songs once again, I was reminded of just how good they all are and how much fun I got out of dancing to each of them throughout the year. You know I've got this thing about me that dancing is one of my favorite things to do.
While I'm dancing to a great song, I'm taken away from all of my troubles and I'm really having fun, pure fun. Whether I'm putting out my best moves in my own little world or I'm dancing flirty flirty with someone, I am living life in its purest enjoyment for me and I like to share my love for the music and the dancing in this way. So whereas I don't consider myself too much of a music critic, I do see myself as a music afficionado, a dance music junkie most of all who just happens to like sharing his passion with likeminded people.
So take a look at this experiment of mine, this attempt at a total article previewed right here on my blog. I wrote it much the same as I would have for Yahoo, but only this time I got to add the music to the mix, as well as photos, too. If you've read this far, I would assume that you like dance music as well and I hope that at least some of these songs you can agree with me on. So come and check out my top ten:
#10 - Barbra Streisand - Duck Sauce
Oh, I loved this frenzied song for so many reasons. My pal Dita is the biggest Barbra fan I know, and so there’s the first reason. At Splash, they sometimes play a mash-up of this with Madonna’s “Vogue,” which works perfectly…number two! And of course, the song is just plain silly and just plain fun! Check out the mash-up below...
#9 - Night of Your Life – David Guetta, featuring Jennifer Hudson
David Guetta’s “Nothing but the Beat” is a whole dance party unto itself, with plenty of great songs to jam to, and this was an early favorite of mine from way back in August when it first came out. It's very anthemic and I love dancing to it in the clubs! Check out the original "Song of the Day" post for the tune right here, and you can buy it below.
#8 - Stereo Love – Edward Maya, featuring Viki Jigulina
So smooth, so Euro…I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like this song!
#7 – Hello – Martin Solvieg
When I first posted this song as “Song of the Day” back in May, I said that it reminded me of something Fatboy Slim used to do. I love everything about this song, the vocals, the music…so good! Check out the John's World "Song of the Day" post for "Hello" right here.
#6 - Good Feeling – Flo Rida, featuring Etta James
If you’ve been following me at all this year, then you know how much I love this song. Flo Rida has a certain hip-hop/dance/pop style that works veryy well on the raddio and in dance halls, and this is by far my favorite of his songs. Love the Etta James sample especially…classic! Check it out right here.
#5 – Scheibe – Lady Gaga
I don’t speak German, but I can if you like: Ich schleiban austa be clair Es kumpent madre monstere, Aus-be aus-can-be flaugen, Begun be uske but-bair
This one from Gaga’s “Born This Way” hasn’t been any sort of hit, but it’s very infectious in a technoey way and I have heard it quite often in the clubs. The German words in the song, I am told, are just a bunch of gibberish, which makes it quite funny, too. This one is very techno and very cool!
#4 - S&M - Rihanna
Na na na na na, c’mon!
This hard-driving song was another dance floor filler every single time it was played! Check it out on John's World by clicking the pic:
2011 was a good year for J-Lo, starting with this song. Making use of a sample of “Lambada” in a clever and clubby way, this one filled dance floors whenever it was played…and it still does!
#2 - Till the World Ends – Britney Spears
This one from Britney’s “Femme Fatale” album was one of the best dance anthems of the year. Co-written by Ke$ha, the song is a must for anyone who loves to dance, including me!
#1 - We Found Love – Rihanna, featuring Calvin Harris
“We Found Love” is just one of those songs that is soooo good! I remember when it was first released, I wasn’t expecting anything new from RiRi, but there it was! Definitely the best dance/club song of the year, so melodic and so danceable!
So there you are, my top ten dance/club songs of the year. Feel free to agree or disagree on any of my choices downn in the comment section. As always, thanks for reading!
Happy New Year 2012 to all of my readers and fellow music fans. The following posts are a first for me. They’re something I would normally put out on Yahoo Voices, but since they’re taking so long these days to get things approved and published, I figured I’d try my luck out here. Besides, I can add photos and videos to make them more interesting, and so we shall see how they do on here.
As many of you already know, I love dance music. Ever since I was in my late teens and started going to the clubs, it has almost always been my genre of choice. Though many people go to clubs to meet people, I often go for the love of dancing, and the songs I share here are some of my favorites from the past year.
I’ve done many “Top Ten,” “Top Twenty,” and such lists in many places before. I just had one published on Yahoo that you can see here: The Top Pop Songs of 2011. I originally called it “John’s Top Pop Songs of 2011,” but they made me change it, even though last year’s piece was titled as such. I have another one still in their queue since Wednesday or so (albums) and I’ll share that if and when it finally gets published.
In the meantime, I present, in three installments, my Top 30 Dance Songs of 2011. I’m counting 30 because I wanted to include all of the one’s I really enjoyed this year and that was the closest number. I could have done 40, but that would have been pushing it, and I could have done 20, but then I would have left out some really good ones. So sit back, relax, and take a look and listen at some of the songs many have danced to in 2011. I hope you enjoy, and if you have any suggestions that I may have left out, please leave a comment.
#30 - Beautiful People – Chris Brown, featuring Benny Benassi
Chris Brown’s kind of soft, kind of melodic and very danceable song is one of those tunes that you know, but often you don’t realize you know it.
#29 - One Hot Pleasure – Erika Jayne
I recently featured this one as “Song of the Day.” It’s one of those sexual songs with plenty of raw club energy!
#28 - Turn Me On – David Guetta, featuring Nicki Minaj
This song off of Guetta’s latest was written by Nicki Minaj and features the rapper actually singing, though her rap part makes the song even better. I haven’t heard this one in the clubs yet, but hopefully soon enough!
#27 - Take Over Control – Afrojack, featuring Ava Simons
This one’s a hypnotic, frenzied, dance floor filler…great fun!
Come take my hand I won't let you go I'll be your friend I will love you so deeply I will be the one to kiss you at night I will love you until the end of time
Oh, this one should be a single! The song is so inspiring, so beautiful, and so much fun. The deejay upstairs at Ritz loves Beyonce a lot and plays this one almost every week!

#25 - Hey Baby (Drop It to the Floor) – Pitbull, featuring T-Pain
A great, fun song by Pitbull, with a smooth chorus!
#24 - Waka Waka – Shakira
This one was from the World Cup back in 2010, but I didn’t learn of it until earlier this year. It still gets played in the clubs a lot and its “Song of the Day” post still gets plenty of hits. It’s one of those really great feel good songs I love so much, with a great message and a great sound!
#23 - Tonight I’m Loving You – Enrique Iglesias, featuring Ludacris and DJ Frank E
This one was always a surefire dance floor filler, and I like the dirty version much better than the clean one! It just sounds better…
#22 – Superbass – Nicki Minaj
This one is for the boys with the booming system Top down, AC with the cooling system When he come up in the club, he be blazin' up Got stacks on deck like he savin' up
The year 2011 was a coming out party for Nicki Minaj, and this was her first big solo hit that worked really well in the clubs, too!
Check out Superbass on John's World Song of the day from July 15th right here.

#21 - Where Them Girls At – David Guetta, featuring Flo Rida, Nicki Minaj
This was one of the lead singles off of “Nothing but the Beat” and it features two of my favorite hip-hop stars. Fun!
Well that's the first part of John's Top 300 Dance/Club Songs of 2011. I hope you've enjoyed these songs as much as I have in the past year. Stay tuned for Part II coming soon...
This is the first time, I believe, that I am posting a video as "Song of the Day" for the second time in such a short period of time, and with good reason. I love "good feeling" songs and this is a really uplifting feel-good song. The first time I heard it I was impressed with the vocals on the chorus, not even realizing that they were taken from an old Etta James song. No wonder they're so powerful! Anyway, it is a feel-good Saturday and so take a listen to this one, grab that feeling and have a great day!
Let's get this week off to a great start with my favorite new song. I really like a lot of the stuff that Flo Rida puts out and this one's right up their with his best. It's got that great Flo vibe and with the added Etta James vocals, this one hits it outta the park! Awesome song!
