Song of the Day - Big Girls Cry - Sia

Here's a track off of Sia's new 1000 Forms of Fear that I loved the first time I heard it.  Big Girls Cry is a tender ballad full of emotion and with Sia's deep, rich voice...woof!  Check it out...

Song of the Day - Chandelier - Sia

Just about two weeks ago I posted a Sia song after I'd heard it at a restaurant.  It was the first time in awhile I'd posted this gifted Australian singer, songwriter and producer, and little did I know that she was about to release a brand new tune.  Check out Chandelier, not really a song I loved at first listen, but this gal is gifted enough for me to let it sink in a few times and then I'm sure I'm going to love it.  Great lyrics, great vocals!

Song of the Day - Never Gonna Leave Me - Sia

Now I'm taking your love from above you're here
And you're never gonna leave me
I will carry you on for so long
Your love is never gonna leave me

Sia is awesome!  Last Tuesday I was in a restaurant and a song was playing in the background that I knew, but couldn't place my finger on.  It was the chorus that was so familiar, and while it was playing I was desperately searching for the name of the song and artist inside the file cabinet that is my brain.

The chorus kept playing over and over in my head until I finally realized it was Sia, who I had forgotten about for a long time.  I found myself revisiting her music a couple of times during my walks this week and remembered how much I'd loved it at the time that I bought it.  Aside from her guest vocals on David Guetta's Titanium, this Aussie artist is little known, and that's a shame because she's a great songwriter, producer, and she's got some deep, rich vocal chords to boot!

So I wanted to share that song I heard last week, a very good song, with you today.  The tune is from her 2010 album, We Are Born, which contains 13 other awesome songs, including a remake of Madonna's Oh Father. I highly recommend it, and if you're not sure, click play below and take a listen. Fun tune!

Song of the Day - Breathe Me - Sia

With the recent success of David Guetta's "Titanium," Aussie singer Sia has come into my world and I am really loving her! A few weeks back I downloaded her most recent set, 2009's "We Are Born," and I'd be hard pressed to share a song from that record that I don't like. On New Year's Day I posted one of them, an upbeat ditty called "Clap Your Hands," and today we feature an older, much gentler tune.

I first heard this one on Jonah Mowry's video, the one that I posted here in December. Jonah is a middle school student in California who created the video out of the frustration of being bullied in school for being gay. (You can see an Examiner piece I wrote on it here.) Now that I've seen Sia's video, I realize that it, too, inspired the manner in which Jonah's video was made.

"Breathe Me" is a beautiful and sad song, and like Jonah's video message, it is a cry for help. I'm happy that the song inspired him and I hope that it has done the same for others, and so I share it here. So sit back, take a look at the lyrics below, and enjoy "Breathe Me." Oh, and Happy Sunday!

Breathe Me - Breathe Me - Single

Breathe Me

Help, I have done it again
I have been here many times before
Hurt myself again today
And, the worst part is there's no-one else to blame

Be my friend
Hold me, wrap me up
Unfold me
I am small
I'm needy
Warm me up
And breathe me

Ouch I have lost myself again
Lost myself and I am nowhere to be found,
Yeah I think that I might break
I've lost myself again and I feel unsafe

Be my friend
Hold me, wrap me up
Unfold me
I am small
I'm needy
Warm me up
And breathe me

Be my friend
Hold me, wrap me up
Unfold me
I am small
I'm needy
Warm me up
And breathe me

Song of the Day - Clap Your Hands - Sia

Happy New Year, and welcome to the first "Song of the Day" for 2012. I recently downloaded a lot of new music by three young ladies who I hadn't really known before, but I'm really starting to like a lot. The first one is Australian singer/songwriter Sia, who came onto my RADAR through David Guetta's "Titanium," which Sia also wrote.

Sia's got a really nice, rich voice, and virtually every song on her album, "We Are Born," is pleasing to the ears. Since I always love the feel-good, up tempo stuff, I chose this fun one from that album...and the video is kinda cute, too! Enjoy!

Song of the Day Special - Titanium - David Guetta feat. Sia / MJB

"Titanium" is by far one of the best tunes on David Guetta's latest, "Nothing But the Beat," and it's finally begun to take off. I featured it as a "Song of the Day" a few weeks back, but now there is a video for the song that you can see below. Neither Guetta or Sia, who I'm starting to learn is uber talented, appear in the short, which I don't quite get. All I can say is interesting and anyway the song is great.

Please take a listen below for another version of the song that was recorded ahead of the album's release, but left out in favor of Sia's version. The vocals are by none other than Mary J Blige, and it's pretty interesting to hear how she sounds singing it. Guetta gave her voice a metallic sound which is very different than anything she's ever done. When I had heard Mary had done a version of the song I was hoping that it would be that one that would make the final cut, but I really didn't know Sia back then. In retrospect, Guetta made the right choice!
