will.i.am's "#willpower" Track Reviews: "#thatpower," featuring Justin Bieber

The next track off #willpower is also its latest single.  #thatpower, featuring the vocals of current teen idol/bad boy Justin Bieber, is a good song, really.  When I featured it as Song of the Day back in May, some Facebook friends of mine commented negatively because of the Biebs, but more than a month later, I still like it regardless.  It's bassy, oh so clubby, and yes, I think Justin's vocals work well on the tune.  Check it out here, or at a club, if you haven't already...

Gaga Track may not make the final cut of Cher's new album

Yes, apparently Cher's new album is all finished being recorded, and the finishing touches and final decisions have yet to be made.  The legendary singer was interviewed on 20/20 Saturday night and during the discussion, she revealed that the song she recorded with Lady Gaga, The Greatest Thing, may not make it to the final version of the album.  The blog propagaga quoted the diva as saying "There is a track with Lady Gaga, but it's very on the line right now...she may not want to be on the album.

So what does that mean?  I guess we'll have to stay tuned to this one to find out more.  In the meantime the album, which was originally slated to be released last March, isn't due out now until September.

Miss Janet Conceptualizing New Album

Janet Jackson hasn't released a new studio album in a long, long time, and she told Billboard recently that her and her team are "creating the concept and initial thoughts on the music" and that she's "excited about the direction that we’re taking.”  This is good news indeed!

Miss Janet recently celebrated the 20 year anniversary of her dynamite fifth album, janet on May 18th.  Look for a special tribute to that great one in the upcoming days...

Song of the Day - That Power - will.i.am with Justin Bieber

justjared

In case y'all haven't noticed yet, will.i.am has a new album out, and it's chock full of collaborations as we might have expected.  Anyway, the record's called #willpower and I'm contemplating reviewing the tracks here, so stay tuned...  In the meantime, here's the follow-up to will's collab with Britney on Scream & Shout, another collaboration with the one and only Justin Bieber called That Power.  Predicting another club smash....

Music News Bytes: New Beyonce, will.i.am with the Biebs; A New Carole King Musical

Music News Bytes is a collection of short music news items that I follow on the Web.  If you're into the same type of music I am, that is pop, dance, R&B, and such, check it out...

New Beyonce Tune

In my Yahoo piece, Exciting New Music Coming in 2013, I mentioned that Beyonce was working on a new album and finally something has leaked out.  The cut is actually two songs in one and like I said in the piece, it sounds more like Sasha Fierce than the softer side of Bey we heard on 2011's 4 record. Click the link for philly.com to take a listen to funky Bow Down/I Been On.

Beautiful: The Carole King Musical coming to Broadway

Anyone who was around in the early 70's surely remembers the beautiful music of Carole King.  Her Grammy-winning 1970 album Tapestry, produced several classics for the Great American songbook, including I Feel the Earth Move, You've Got a Friend and It's Too Late. Coming in the spring of 2014, the famed singer/songwriter will be the subject of a new Broadway musical, Beautiful.  The announcement follows a popular trend on Broadway, where catalogs of musical acts have been used to weave a story line of a show.  Just think Mamma Mia, Jersey Boys, and so on.  This one just might be good!

will.i.am and the Biebs on a New Song

Black Eyed Peas singer will.i.am continues to work with the hottest music acts of the day, and his newest collaboration from his forthcoming album is with teen pop idol Justin Bieber.  The song is called That Power and it's another thumping club tune that's sure to burn up dance floors in the coming months.  Check out a preview on YouTube.

The 40th AMA's - My Favorite Performances

chymfm

Thank God for DVR's!  I tell ya, I was really looking forward to watching the 40th Annual American Music Awards last night, but I had an engagement and couldn't be around to watch it live, so voila! DVR!  Watching any awards show on DVR is always better anyway because I can watch three hours worth in less than half that (no commercials and I get to skip the parts that don't interest me).

Any-who, some great performances were scheduled to be performed last night and so I really was looking forward to seeing some of them.  Of course, I was looking forward to P!nk the most, but also The Wanted, Kelly Clarkson, Psy, and Ke$ha were all on my 'to watch' list as well.

The Wanted - I Found You

After a ho hum performance of her new song, This Kiss, and a lil bit of Call Me Maybe came The Wanted, putting on an energetic performance of their latest I Found You.  Check it out:

Ms. Kelly's Medley

Next, Kelly Clarkson, who will soon be releasing her first greatest hits set, performed a melody of some of those songs.  Check out Ms. Kelly:

Go On Ms. P!nk

Anyone who follows me knows how much I love me some P!nk.  In fact, I just spent the last couple of months feverishly reviewing her latest masterpiece track by track for this blog.  P!nk is not only a master songwriter and singer, she's also a great performer.  Who could forget that touchingly beautiful performance of Glitter in the Air at the Grammys awhile back?  Well, last night she recreated her video for her latest, Try, and to me, solidified her stature as one of music's greatest performers.  Watch:

Surprising Fun with Chris Brown

I know there are many people out there who hate Chris Brown, but I really enjoyed him with Ludacris and Swizz Beatz giving a high-energy rendition of Everyday Birthday.  I'm not posting the video, but if you like hip-hop and dance, a mixed genre in which Brown seems to have found his niche, click the title to watch it.

Other notable notes...

Other performances that I didn't chose to feature here included Ke$ha performing her new Die Young, which I absolutely love, though really to me the song does not translate live.  Hmmm, that voice!?!?  Nicki Minaj sang Freedom, which did not quite get my juices flowing.  Maybe because it's a little soft for Ms. Thing.  She returned a little later to join the Biebs on stage for something I didn't really get...???  No Doubt and lead singer Gwen Stefani did a nice performance of their latest, Looking Hot, and Ryan Seacrest and Stevie Wonder did a nice job paying a well deserved tribute to the late, great Dick Clark to cap off the performances I found to be of interest.

The Grand Finale - Who'd a Thunk?

The final and most entertaining performance of the night was that Korean sensation Psy, who's all over the place these days, and he brought on a special guest.  Somewhere towards the middle of the song, Mr. Too Legit to Quit, M.C. Hammer made a long-time-coming appearance on stage with the Gangnam Style singer. Check this out:

Anyway, in between all of these performances there were awards given out.  Check out all the winners right here.  Till next time....

P!nk #1 All Over the Place

Well, it looks like a lot of people agree with my assessment of The Truth About Love.  Earlier today, Billboard Magazine reported that the newest album by the one and only Ms. P!nk has debuted at #1 on its Hot 200 Albums Chart.  The record is her very first #1 album (Funhouse peaked at #2), selling 280,000 copies in its first week of release.  The only two albums to sell more copies in their first week this year were Madonna's MDNA and Justin Bieber's Believe.

After just one week, I can already tell that this album will definitely become my pick for #1 of the year 2012, which is a pretty bold statement considering there are still three months left in it and MDNA also came out this year.  Truth is, I just cannot get enough of this one!  When it reaches the end I am every time wanting for more, and all I can do is go right back to the beginning and listen all over again.  The record is that good!

NY Daily News

Before this even happened, the very talented singer-songwriter extraordinaire took to her page to thank fans for their support:

Dudes! Dudettes!

Seriously, I cannot thank you enough for the insane support and love that you've been throwing at me. It's like you just slapped me across the face with a big love slap and I have hand marks to prove it!

Thank you for getting the album, for digging it, for watching all the new shows, and for coming to see me on tour - I can't wait to see all of you! I hope you all are feeling happy about the new music. If anyone doesn't like Kanye you should buy two more albums - just kidding :)
love and bear hugs and big wet kisses xxxxxxxxxxxx

Awwww!!!!  I'm just loving everything about her, can you tell?  I think she's different from all the rest, never a conformist, never shy, and always spot-on honest and up front.  Not only did she receive big news on the album, but its first single, Blow Me (One Last Kiss) also reached #1 on Billboards Hot 100 this week, making it the singer's 8th chart topper.

So stay tuned for more track reviews of The Truth About Love coming soon, and check out P!nk's performance on The Today Show from last week:

Song of the Day - Boyfriend - Justin Bieber

If you'd have told me a month ago that I'd have Justin Bieber on my blog not once, but twice in one month, I'd have thought you were crazy. I mean, yeah he's cutesy and talented, but the whole teeny bopper thing just kinda turns me off. (Bad memories of a Debbie Gibson concert at Jones Beach with about 15,000 teenage girls in 1988 might just have something to do with it.)

I gotta say, though, every once in awhile the bubble gum pop just gets to me, and that's just what happened when I posted Carly Rae Jepson's "Call Me Maybe" video a few weeks ago, which features Justin. Since putting that one up, I've actually downloaded it to iTunes and have caught myself listening to several times since then.

Anyway, back to this one. Of course, coverage was all over the place when this was released on Monday and I gave it a quick listen just to see what it was about, and you know what? I kind of liked it! It's definitely a maturer sound than the things I've heard from the kid, and it's pretty good at that.

"Boyfriend" has a nice, snappy track and Justin's vocals are a little R&B in the verses and downright poppy-catchy in the chorus. It's an interesting song that's now got me eager to see what Mr. Bieber's gonna come out with next.
