Since Calvin Harris appeared so often on my top dance tunes of 2012, it's only right that I add yet another of his works into this blog.  Here's a second collaboration with Florence Welch only this time it's not a straight up partnership, but his remix of Florence +The Machine's Spectrum (Say My Name).  The visually dramatic video was directed by the always stylish David LaChappelle.  Hot!

Song of the Day - Let's Have A Kiki"/"Turkey Lurkey Time - Glee Cast

The term 'kiki' hasn't been around all that long, but I've been hearing it a lot lately. Urban Dictionary defines a kiki (according to the one and only Scissor Sisters) as :

a party for calming all your nerves, spilling tea and dishing just desserts one may deserve. And though the sun is rising, few may choose to leave.

Well, though I've heard the word, I never knew the song...that is until I watched a recent episode of Glee.  It was their Thanksgiving episode when Rachel and Kurt decide to enjoy their turkey dinner in their Brooklyn apartment.  Sara Jessica Parker, who plays Kurt's boss, invites all her Vogue queen friends there for a night of kiki with the duo, and Rachel's hunky hot guy, Brody.

The scene starts with Sara Jessica running late and calling her friends to make sure they're gonna be at the kiki (VERY Sex and the City!), and well, you can watch the rest.  I loved this scene so much I watched it twice and I'm about to download the song!  Enjoy!

Silly....hell yeah, but that's why I like this song so much.  Big beats and big fun!!!!

#9 - Somebody That I Used to Know (Remixes) - Gotye, featuring Kimbra

Yes, this song was one of the sleeper hits of the year on the pop music scene, and a few months into its life, remixes started popping up all over the place, giving it a whole new appeal.  It's hard to pick just one, there are so many, but many of them are great and you can check out this blog post by Pigeons & Planes for a listing of several of them. And be sure to check out the comment section for even more. 



#8 - We Run the Night - Havana Brown, featuring Pitbull

I don't think this song made much headway on the pop charts, but it is fierce!  Only now that I looked up the lyrics, though do I understand what she's singing in the chorus...

#7 - I'm Addicted - Madonna

Here's one that many of you probably don't know, but it's one of my favorite dance cuts off of M.D.N.A.  The music track is oh so danceable and I LOVE the M-D-N-A, M-D-N-A's towards the end.  Check out a live performance of the track on John's World.

#6 - Girl Gone Wild - Madonna

Oh my God

Madonna's opening salvo to M.D.N.A, both the album and the show, is sort of a sequel to her Act of Contrition from the Like a Prayer album and a great segue to a great dance tune.  Check out the sexy video for Girl Gone Wild:

Once again, I have no idea exactly what this song is all about, but it's maaaadddd fun!  Check out Starships.

What can I say?  I love Calvin Harris and I love Ne-Yo!  This one's an awesome, awesome dance floor smash!  Check out this hot, hot song...

#3 - Sweet Nothing - Calvin Harris, featuring Florence Welch

Haha, yet another Calvin Harris track, this time with the unique vocals of Florence Welch.  This one took awhile to grow on me, but grow on me it did!  Love the hot music!  Check out Sweet Nothings.



#2 - Feel So Close - Calvin Harris

Okay, okay, so I really got into Mr. Harris this year, and this one was my favorite!  His own vocals on the track coupled with another awesome track makes my head bop and I feel good all over.  Check it out on John's World.

#1 - Dance Again - Jennifer Lopez, featuring Pitbull

The second J-Lo song to appear on this countdown is also my favorite dance track of the year.  This one recaptures some of that magic of On the Floor, with a hot dance floor vibe.  My favorite line is when she says, I, I, I, I, I love to make love to ya baby... Love it!  Check it out...

Song of the Day and a Neat Lil New Year's Activity - When I Grow Up - Pussycat Dolls

Happy New Year! 

 Last night I went to a house party given by one of my newest friends Eric and his partner Rick. Eric's an elementary school teacher and he totally fits that bill. Any-who, he had this neat little New Year's activity set up for his guests last night, which actually was my inspiration for this song.

About an hour or so before midnight, Eric brought out some little pieces of paper and some pens, which he handed out to each of us.  He then instructed us to write down two things on it: something you wanted to let go of from the past year, and something you wished for in the year ahead.  At first, I thought it was some kind of game where I was going to end up embarrassed (all I'm going to say here is that there's a history with Mr. Eric), so I didn't really pay too much attention.  It didn't take me long to realize, though, that this was nothing of the sort, as everyone else was already jotting away, and so I took my paper and my pen, pondered it for a few minutes and wrote my two answers down.

Eric even had given a little incentive to participate in the activity (he's such a teacher, lol!), though the lottery tickets he was giving out were not the reason I participated (and I won, too, seventeen smackaroos on Lucky 7's!).  Mr. G., Eric's teacher name, lol, then brought out a group of mylar, helium-filled balloons, to which each of us would attach our paper.  The idea was to let the balloons go a little before midnight, which he did from his front lawn at 11:45 as all of the guests looked on.

So that was the activity, something simple yet pretty cool!  Eric had told us as we were writing them that we could share what we wrote if we liked, and a couple of us did, but to me these types of things should be private, though I did share my first answer (I'm not gonna do that here, though!).  So this is how I came to this song...one or two people had asked me what I had wished for in the coming year, and so I woke up this morning with the tag line to this song in my head, lol.

Be careful what you wish for cause you just might get it...        

Anyway, cool activity, huh?  An just in case Eric is reading this, I want to thank both he and Rick for a marvelous New Year's Eve.  They are the consummate hosts, and I look forward to spending more good times with the two of them!
