Madonna's Give Me All Your Luvin' : Commentary, Video, Lyrics and more
Well folks the time is finally here! Having been trapped all day at work knowing that Madonna's "Gimme All Your Luvin" video was released at 9AM this morning was tough and I couldn't wait to get home, get on my pc and take my own look and listen.
Of course this is all over the Internet, and the chatter is non-stop. Literally every one out of five tweets on my Twitter feed has something to do with the big release, and I'm consider myself lucky to have the ability to share my own thoughts here.
I'd like to preface this by saying that I've loved Madonna since the beginning. I know a lot of people claim to be, but for me it's absolutely true. I remember my days in the Bronx as a teenager hearing "Everybody" for the first time on the radio and eating it all up. I've followed her through thick and thin, been a part of every exciting release of new material, spent hours upon hours listening to her in my house, in the car, and just about everywhere else, but I wouldn't say I'm nearly as rabid as some folks are about the Queen of Pop (I really hate that expression, but I do believe it to be true!).
Having said that, I may appear to be a little harsher than your average fan on the new song and video, but that's what I do. I remember back when Diana Ross was my diva, I was always a little extra-critical of the things she said or did, but that's because I loved her so, and it's the same with Madonna.
I admit I heard the demo that had been leaking around the Internet weeks ago and at first I was a little disappointed with the sound of it. I've listened to it only once or twice since then, not wanting to listen to an illegally leaked and unfinished song out of respect for her and what I think is right. I waited until today to hear the whole thing and my perception is not too much different, albeit better.
"Gimme All Your Love" is undeniably catchy. After just one or two listens, the chorus sticks in your head and you find yourself singing it well after you've finished listening to it. On the negative side, it's not one of her best efforts, though that may very well change eventually.
L. U. V. Madonna!
Both the tune and the video are decidedly football, replete with cheerleaders chanting the chorus and lots of football players featured in the short. Though it's very catchy, it is also a little kitschy, especially for such an accomplished singer like Madge whose put out some incredible stuff over her 30 or so years in the business. To those many songs, like the dark and mysterious "Frozen," the ethereal and anthemic "Like a Prayer," or the raw energy of her early tunes like "Lucky Star," "Open Your Heart," and many more, this one doesn't compare.
Still, having followed Madonna all these years, I can say with confidence that I trust she knows what she's doing, and she can afford to do things like this with the status that she has and people will take notice. This record will be a hit, there is no doubt, and it will get plenty of plays on my iPod, for sure!
The video is as kitschy as the song, and the way she blasts through that door with the baby carriage at the beginning reminded me of an 80's video. The choreography could pass off as the same, with moves reminiscent of many of those early singers who pranced around sound stages and cajoled their viewers to sing and dance along.
Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. follow our star around throughout, in full cheerleader gear, carrying pom poms and adding their voices to the cheery chorus throughout. The pair's featured parts don't come in until right towards the end, when the three are in a small room, all donning blond wigs and white dresses, and dancing and rapping to the music as they take turns with the lead. I like the addition of the two, though each of their parts aren't as strong as I would have expected. I definitely need a few more listens before these sink in.
Madonna and her collaborators all look great, and our lady is especially fit and beautiful in the vid. You'd never know she was 53 years old from the way she looks and moves. Nicki's a little toned down compared to what we've seen from her own videos, looking simple and schoolgirlish in her cheerleading outfit, and M.I.A. is a stunningly beautiful woman. I'm sure this much acclaimed, very talented and somewhat obscure rapstress will get a lot of notice after this.
Even though "Gimme All Your Luvin" is by no means my favorite Madonna song ever, I still like it, and I know it will grow on me and many others even more with time. For all it's campy-ness and simplicity, it's pure pop fun!
NOTE: For a limited time only, fans can pre-order Madonna's new album on iTunes and get immediate access to "Gimme All Your Luvin." The cost is a very inexpensive $9.99 and the album will contain three bonus tracks, one of which is available only with this pre-order. Check it out here:
Gimme All Your Luvin lyrics
L-U-V Madonna
Y-O-U You wanna
I see you coming and I don't wanna know your name
L-U-V Madonna
I see you coming and you're gonna have to change the game
Y-O-U You wanna
Would you like to try?
Give me a reason why
Give me all that you got
Maybe you'll do fine
As long as you don't lie to me
And pretend to be what you're not
Don't play the stupid game
Cause I'm different kind of girl
Every record sounds the same
You've got to step into my world
Give me all your love and give me your love
Give me all your love today
Give me all your love and give me your love
Let's forget about ime
And dance our lives away
L-U-V Madonna
Y-O-U You wanna
Ke L-U-V Madonna
Keep trying don't give up, it's if you want it bad enough
L-U-V Madonna
It's right in front of you, now tell me what you're thinking of
Y-O-U-You wanna
In another place, at a different time
You can be my lucky star
We can drink some wine
Burgundry is fine
Let's drink the bottle every drop
Don't play the stupid game
Cause I'm different kind of girl
Every record sounds the same
You've got to step into my world
Give me all your love and give me your love
Give me all your love today
Give me all your love and give me your love
Let's forget about ime
And dance our lives away
You have all the L-U-V
I gave you everything you need
Now it's up to Y-O-U
Are you the one, shall we proceed?
M-A-D Don't make me
L-U-V It's time for
Y-O-U It's up to
L-U-V I want your
Don't play the stupid game
Cause I'm different kind of girl
Every record sounds the same
You've got to step into my world
Give me all your love and give me your love
Give me all your love today
Give me all your love and give me your love
Let's forget about ime
And dance our lives away
