Swedish Fab Four ABBA to release a new song in April
I just heard this little tidbit and thought I'd pass it on for any interested fans of the Swedish pop group ABBA. On April 23rd, the group will be re-releasing a special edition of their 1981 album, "The Visitors," complete with a brand new, never before released track. The song,"From a Twinkling Star to a Passing Angel," is a medley of demos recorded for that album, which was the group's last, in 1981.
The new song will be the first of any type of new material released by the group in 18 years. Together, the foursome of Agnetha Faltskog, Benny Andersson, Bjorn Ulvaeus and Anni-Frid Lyngstad tore up the music world during the 1970's with an irresistible pop sound that resonated with music fans worldwide. With over 200 million albums sold worldwide, ABBA is one of the world's most commercially successful groups of all time.
To the dismay of their many fans the group, whose members were two sets of married couples (Agnetha and Bjorn and Anna-Frid and Benny), disbanded in the early 1980's, leaving a legacy of music that can still be heard today on oldies stations everywhere and in the hit Broadway musical "Mamma Mia."
I have long been a big fan of the Swedish Fab Four for a long, long time, and every once in awhile I visit the ABBA folder on my iPod to partake in a little ABBA indulgence, bopping to songs like "Waterloo," "Dancing Queen," and "Does Your Mother Know," or singing along with passion to the tender "Knowing Me, Knowing You," the harmonious "Chiquitita," or one of my personal favorites, "S.O.S." Take a listen:
I am definitely looking forward to the new song from ABBA. I know that these four will probably never perform together again, and so this will be a rare opportunity to hear something new. I can't wait! In the meantime, check out the lyrics to "S.O.S.":
S.O.S.
Where are those happy days, they seem so hard to find
I tried to reach for you, but you have closed your mind
Whatever happened to our love?
I wish I understood
It used to be so nice, it used to be so good
So when you're near me, darling can't you hear me
S. O. S.
The love you gave me, nothing else can save me
S. O. S.
When you're gone
How can I even try to go on?
When you're gone
Though I try how can I carry on?
You seem so far away though you are standing near
You made me feel alive, but something died I fear
I really tried to make it out
I wish I understood
What happened to our love, it used to be so good
So when you're near me, darling can't you hear me
S. O. S.
The love you gave me, nothing else can save me
S. O. S.
When you're gone
How can I even try to go on?
When you're gone
Though I try how can I carry on?
So when you're near me, darling can't you hear me
S. O. S.
And the love you gave me, nothing else can save me
S. O. S.
When you're gone
How can I even try to go on?
When you're gone
Though I try how can I carry on?
When you're gone
How can I even try to go on?
When you're gone
Though I try how can I carry on?
