Flashback Friday Song of the Day - Self Control - Laura Branigan
Today's flashback is from a Long Island girl who left us way before her time. Laura, who'd had several big hits during the 80's, including Gloria, How Am I Supposed to Live Without You, and this one, died of a brain aneurysm at the age of 47 in August of 2004. Gloria was her biggest hit, making it big on the airwaves twice: first when it was released in 1982, and then again here on Long Island when Hurricane Gloria came for a visit.
I contemplated putting both songs here at once, because they were both so good, but I was a little older when this one came out in 84, so I heard it a lot in the clubs. The song's got a great hook that I remember really getting into at the time. Perhaps Gloria will be featured here soon, but for now enjoy Laura Branigan's Self Control.
I...live among the creatures of the night
I haven't got the will to try and fight...

I never knew what happened to this artist. She produced some wonderful songs. Sad.
ReplyDeleteI agree! :-(
DeleteI don't know if you read this, but Laura was 52 when she died. She was born 1952, and not 1957. AP made a correction of her wrong obituary in Feb this year. http://bigstory.ap.org/article/4ce78d41c83540e2b9b6b6b34a592158/correction-laura-branigan-obituary
